Ligaments hold bones in place, and muscles move bones back and forth.
For muscles to properly move your bones, they have to be balanced in strength and length with the other surrounding muscles. In order to stay healthy, weakened muscles need to be strengthened while shortened muscles need to be lengthened.
So before you start any exercise program, you should have your muscles tested to find out which ones need strengthening, and which ones need lengthening.
